World War 2 is coming to an end; Germany has surrendered, but Japan is still fighting strong. The United States needs Japan to surrender before killing and ruining more lives. Harry Truman, the president of the United States, proposed nuclear weapons be used. On August 6, 1945, at approximately 8:15 am, the United States dropped "Little Boy" on Hiroshima, Japan, immediately wiping an estimated 80,000 people. Just three days later, at approximately 11:01 am the United States dropped "Fat Man" on Nagasaki, Japan, killing an estimated 40,000 people on impact. These nuclear weapons caused radiation, killing and affecting tens of thousands of people over the years. This event led nuclear weapons to be introduced into wars, which later would lead to an arms race with the Soviet Union. These countries race to build nuclear weapons to be used in war, which emerged as the Cold War.
